Why Lavender?
Lavender is not just a pretty flower; it adds a unique floral and herbaceous note to your drinks. The lavender in Farmstead 1868's culinary varieties brings a subtle yet distinct flavor, transforming your ordinary Sangria into a sophisticated and aromatic beverage!
Lavender Sangria:
Ingredients
- 1 bottle of your favorite white wine (750ml)
- 1/4 cup Farmstead 1868's culinary lavender (Munstead or Hidcote)
- 1/2 cup brandy
- 1/4 cup honey or lavender-infused simple syrup
- 2 cups sparkling water
- 1 orange, sliced
- 1 lemon, sliced
- 1 cup mixed berries or sliced fruit (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, pomegranates, oranges, or cranberries)
Instructions:
- Infuse the Wine:
- Pour the white wine into a pitcher.
- Add the culinary lavender to the wine, allowing it to infuse for at least 30 minutes. This will impart a gentle lavender flavor to the sangria. ( Use a tea infuser or disposable tea bag to remove the buds later, or plan to strain the wine to remove buds.)
- Sweeten the Mix:
- In a separate bowl, mix the brandy and honey (or lavender-infused simple syrup) until well combined.
- Combine and Chill:
- Pour the brandy and honey mixture into the lavender-infused wine.
- Add the sliced oranges, lemons, and mixed berries to the pitcher.
- Refrigerate the sangria for at least 2 hours, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Sparkling Finish:
- Just before serving, add the sparkling water to the sangria for a fizzy touch.
- Serve and Enjoy:
- Pour the Lavender Sangria into glasses filled with ice.
- Garnish with a sprig of fresh or dried lavender for a fragrant and aesthetic touch.
Pro Tip: When cooking with lavender, a little goes a long way. For more intense flavor, allow the lavender to steep longer. For a lighter flavor, remove before 30 minutes.
